Third Thursday, the community-support and fundraising group of women, is privileged to be raising funds for the Bigshoes Foundation on 13 October at 18:30 at the Indaba Hotel. The distinguished speaker is Gill Marcus, Governor of the Reserve Bank, and guests are invited to enjoy a sumptuous dinner while listening to her speak. On auction will be an artwork by Eliza Kentridge, sister of William Kentridge, dedicated-to-the-event limited edition Zapiro cartoons, and Market Theatre Photo Workshop photographs.
Guests will be supporting a worthy cause, and are invited to bring a pair of children’s shoes and to wear a funky pair of their own, in keeping with the theme of the evening. Great prizes are to be won and tickets for the event can be purchased via info@thirdthursday.co.za or from Helen at 082 901 5817. Corporate organisations are encouraged to purchase a table of 10 tickets.
The Bigshoes Foundation assists orphaned and vulnerable children, especially those affected by HIV/AIDS, grow up to fill big shoes! Interventions are made at specific “points of vulnerability” in the life space of the child; these include abandonment, institutionalisation, terminal illness and disease.
These interventions are made through medical care, training and advocacy. Judge Edwin Cameron is the patron of the organisation which is making a meaningful contribution to transforming the lives of many children in South Africa ... and you can be a part of that, too!
