PPS scholarship, bursaries to be awarded
PPS has put out the call for students to apply for its annual scholarship award, as well as one of the 20 bursaries the company is offering.
This year, PPS Insurance is making one scholarship of R30 000 and 20 bursaries of R10 000 each available to students who meet the company's criteria. The scholarship covers books, accommodation and tuition fees to the value of R30 000, while the bursaries cover books and tuition to the value of R10 000. The scholarship is awarded on academic merit and the bursaries on financial need.
The annual PPS Insurance Chairman’s Scholarship Award is presented to a top academic student registered in at least his or her fourth year of academic study in a course which, once completed, leads to a profession that makes them eligible for PPS membership. These include degrees in the medical, legal, dentistry, accountancy, marketing and engineering fields, as well as Honours, Masters, M.Tech or D.Tech qualifications. The R10 000 bursaries follow the same entry criteria and are awarded on financial need.
In its ongoing commitment to education, PPS Insurance has awarded over R1.3 million in scholarships and bursaries to students studying towards a professional career at universities throughout South Africa since 1999.
Students who are eligible for the awards are required to be citizens or permanent residents of South Africa, Zimbabwe, Namibia, Swaziland, Botswana or such areas as the PPS Insurance board may determine. They are also required to complete the entry forms that are available from the PPS website: www.pps.co.za
Since the start of this successful CSI initiative PPS Insurance has received thousands of applications for the Chairman's Scholarship Fund and the Chairman's Bursary Fund from students in their fourth year of academic study. This reflects the high standards and calibre of students who are studying towards a profession in South Africa, and is encouraging for both PPS Insurance and the local economy.
Students are encouraged to act soon, as the closing date for entries is 31 December 2006.
