The Institute of Bankers in South Africa (IOB) was established in 1904 and has been a formidable partner to the banking and financial service industry.

Since its inception, the Institute has endeavoured to enhance the professional competence within the banking and financial services industry by delivering vocational and academic programmes of high quality to an ever-changing financial landscape.

The Institute is the fifth oldest institute in the world and is a members' organization, which provides for three different spheres:

Professional development
Vocational programmes
Academic programmes
The IOB endeavours to give banking staff the knowledge and skills to enhance their professional competencies, by delivering vocational and academic programmes of a high quality, in an ever-changing global financial landscape, both locally and internationally.

The IOB has stayed abreast of trends and developments in education and training in the banking and financial services domain and will continue to develop learning pathways that will foster the culture of lifelong learning. The Institute's programmes provide the opportunity of attaining practical competence alongside academic knowledge
