Finance Minister, Pravin Gordhan has appointed Muvhango Lukhaimane as the Deputy Pension Fund Adjudicator, in terms of the Pension Fund Act no 24 of 1956. Ms Lukhaimane commenced her responsibilities on the 1st of June 2012.

“I’ve always had an affinity with this industry, and I understand it well. I see this as another opportunity for me to continue to serve,” says Ms Lukhaimane.

One of the priorities she has set herself in this new role is to deal with the backlog of matters that have been brought to her office.

“I’ve noticed that in order for this office to perform at its optimum level, we need to improve our response times. For this, we will have to use a two-pronged approach. Firstly we need to raise awareness among the members of all the funds to know and exercise their rights and keep record of the rules of their respective funds and all related information such as benefit statements so that they can supply us with all the necessary information needed to deal with their cases speedily. Secondly, we need to find a way of dealing with companies that have become section 13A serial offenders, this has become a real problem,” she says.

The executive Officer of the Financial Services Board, Advocate Dube Tshidi, has also expressed his support for Ms Lukhaimane.

“The fact that she is a seasoned lawyer, and an experienced industry player means that she will bring real value to the pensions industry,” he said.
