The wedding season is on the horizon, as many couples say “I do” to their life partners. You can be the power

couple, and partner with an insurance partner that will protect you on your new life journey. The wedding is a

one-day event, but the marriage is where all the real planning begins. Securing your new home, car, or future,

begins by planning for the unknown so that you can focus on your new life together. There are many seasons in

life, and being prepared with iMas Insurance Brokers, can avoid unexpected events in life. Lize Badenhorst,

iMas Insurance Brokers GM: Short Term Insurance, shares how couples can have the cover in place

throughout storms and sunny days.

Home Contents Insurance:

When you start your new life together as a married couple, you create a home with the belongings you have inside of it, whether it's your brand new flat screen TV, or the room divider you inherited from your grandmother. It's always important to make sure that you know your belongings are insured.

Make sure that you and your future spouse take out a home contents insurance policy that covers all your furniture and

belongings. “It is important to note that when you take up a home contents insurance policy, you keep it up to date by reviewing your policy every year. That way you make sure that any new items you bought are insured, or where you have sold, or gave away some items, it is removed from your policy. If you do not update your policy on a regular basis, you face the risk of being over, or under-insured” Badenhorst advises.

Personal belongings insurance cover ensures that loss or damage to any of your personal possessions, such as the engagement ring, as well as items such as your mobile phones and laptops are covered, should the unfortunate happen. Personal belongings insurance cover gives you and your partner peace of mind when you should be focusing on the wedding. “Make sure that you and your spouse are aligned in terms of the insurance policies you have in place as a unit. It might be more cost effective to have one policy with all your insurable items, rather than having individual insurance in place” says Badenhorst.

Life Cover:

A couple that has life cover, continues their bond, even after death. “

Life cover protects your partner should something happen to you. Your partner will be provided for even after you are gone.” says Badenhorst. Having a valid Will in place for both of you, removes any unwanted surprises or disputes in the family. Your Will protects your partner and family. If you do not have a valid Will in place when you pass on, then your assets will be dealt with interstate and the state will appoint an executor on your behalf, who will handle your estate (i.e. your possessions). So, it is important to get a Will in place as soon as possible, if you do not have one yet. If you do have a Will in place, it is important to review it annually with your partner.

Savings and Investment:

You and your partner saving together for the future, needs to begin as soon as you get married. “Make sure your savings goals are aligned.,You can both decide what you will save monthly. Saving for the future, means being ready for the future.

Take up a savings product on which you can earn the highest interest.” concludes Badenhorst.
