IISA welcomes Wayne Abraham, CEO of AIG to the Board

The Insurance Institute of South Africa welcomes Wayne Abraham, CEO of AIG, to serve as a Board member with effect from the 15 May 2014.

Wayne has always had an interest in insurance education and is committed in his endeavours to make the industry more professional from an educational perspective.  He is therefore very pleased to have recently joined the Board of the IISA which is the SAQA approved not for profit Professional body for the short term insurance industry. The IISA deals with many aspects of insurance education and has the vested authority to award the prestigious designations of Licentiate, Associate and Fellow of the Insurance Institute of South Africa to successfully insurance qualified individuals amongst its other market activities.

Wayne joined AIG in 2002 as the Regional Finance Director, AIG Africa Region and in 2007 became the Chief Operating Officer, AIG Africa.  In 2010 he moved to Dubai as the CFO of Central (Middle East and Africa). Wayne returned to South Africa in 2013 as the Country Manager of AIG South Africa and earlier this year his responsibilities were expanded to include sub Saharan Africa in his new role as Managing Director, AIG Africa Zone.

Wayne started his career doing his articles with PriceWaterhouseCoopers and moved into their audit division, leaving at the beginning of 2002 as a Senior Audit Manager.

He holds a B Comm Accounting from the Rand Afrikaans University and an Honours Bachelor of Accounting Science from the University of South Africa. He achieved his Chartered Accountancy Qualification in 1997. Wayne is married with two sons. He loves spending time with his family, visiting the bush and playing golf whenever he can fit it in.
