Rethinking commercial insurance for 10 years

Jurgen Hellweg, CEO
Western National

Niche commercial insurer Western National is celebrating 10 years of providing total insurance solutions to the commercial and business market in both South Africa and Namibia.

From its inception, the company has been determined to demonstrate that insurance – typically considered a grudge purchase – can add enormous value and peace of mind to a commercial entity and its owners and directors.

The risks that medium sized businesses face can be catastrophic to companies; these include fires, storms, wind, water, hail, as well as theft, liability claims, collisions, power surges and the like.

Western recognises that commercial insurance needs to be highly tailored to the unique requirements of the entrepreneur. As a result, it has developed flexible structuring options so clients can tailor their excess and premium as well as the various risks associated with it.

Operating through over 200 highly skilled intermediaries, Western offers companies access to multiple product options.

“Our focus on the commercial market, our effective team of highly skilled staff, our flexibility, our quality products and exceptional claim services, mean our intermediaries are able to provide their clients with the best solutions available in the market,” says Western CEO Jurgen Hellweg.

Western offers clients the option to combine various risks classes plus the ability to enhance the policy with multiple extensions in order to create a tailor-made solution that meets their individual exposures.

Founded in Namibia in 2004, the success of the company resulted in an expansion into South Africa in 2007. In Namibia it is represented in Windhoek and Walvisbay. In South Africa through representations in the Western Cape, Eastern Cape, Gauteng, Limpopo and Bloemfontien, it is able to service clients nationally.

In 2012, Western National was purchased by PSG Konsult Limited which together with Santam makes up the shareholding. “This shareholding reaffirms our credibility, financial soundness, commitment to service excellence and impeccable work ethic,” says Hellweg.
